Keweenaw Research Center
The Keweenaw Research Center (KRC) is a new office and laboratory building owned by Michigan Tech. UPEA assisted the owner in developing a concept into a functional, constructible building that met the budget. The building features exposed structure, geo-thermal HVAC system (top photo), and natural daylight and views for all offices.

8,000 s.f. Commons Addition.
When the District made the decision to close the campus, students were required to stay on school property during lunch breaks. The result was that students loitered in the corridors between classes, creating congestion and disruptions. The District determined to build a space where students could have a conversation, study, or catch up on the news in a relaxing atmosphere. UPEA designed a “Commons” to fulfill the need for such flexible space. The addition has been constructed on two levels, with the lower level designed for conversation and the upper level for quieter activities. UPEA also prepared furniture specifications and bid documents.
